Whirlpool dryer error codes are less standardised than the washer equivalents, because Whirlpool has used several different control platforms over the years. A code on a Cabrio does not necessarily mean the same thing on a Duet, and older mechanical dryers display no codes at all.

Airflow codes
AF indicates restricted airflow. This is the most useful code Whirlpool produces, because it identifies the underlying cause of most other dryer failures.
Clear the lint filter, disconnect the exhaust duct and check for a compacted lint plug, then confirm the exterior flap opens while the machine runs. Ignoring AF eventually costs you a thermal fuse or a heating element.
Heating and thermistor codes
F22, F23, E1 and E2 are thermistor or temperature sensor faults on various platforms. The sensor reports drum temperature to the control board, and when it reads out of range the board may refuse to run the heater at all.
A thermistor is tested by resistance against a temperature chart rather than simple continuity, so this usually needs service data for your model.
F28 and similar codes on some platforms relate to the moisture sensing circuit, which decides when the load is dry.

F30 family codes on some platforms relate to communication between the control and the user interface.
Door codes
Some models indicate a door switch fault, and the practical symptom is a dryer that will not start, or one that runs but never heats. A worn door switch is inexpensive and a common failure.
